Overview:
Organizes the supplies and equipment in the operating rooms. Sets up the operating surgeon’s sterile table with anticipating what may be needed during procedures. Assists surgeons and any assistants don their surgical gowns and gloves. Counts surgical instruments before and after the surgery. Hands the desired instruments to the surgeon during procedure. Prepares the sterile dressings and cleans surgical equipment, room, and instruments after each procedure. Responsible for ensuring proper care and use of surgical instruments.
Responsibilities:
- Performs in accordance with facility’s policies and procedures
- Recognizes patients’ rights and responsibilities and supports them in performance of job duties
- Participates in facility committees, meetings, in-services, and activities
- Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers
- Analyzes work area and makes recommendations for potential cost-effective improvements
- Contributes to the progress and development of the organizations adopted Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) program
- Participates in data collection activities to support the Quality Assessment Performance Improvement policies and procedures
- Adheres to safety policies and procedures at all times
- Participates in continuing education and other learning experiences
- Performs specified functions to meet the requirements of each approved procedure
- Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians’ preference cards
- Inspects equipment for proper working conditions
- Follows principles of aseptic techniques and prescribed operating/procedure room procedures
- Adheres to aseptic technique when opening sterile packages
- Arranges instruments according to given procedure
- Confirms that instruments work properly
- Correctly uses, cares for, cleans, and sterilizes instruments, supplies, and equipment as directed
- Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during procedure
- Assists in storing and stocking supplies as directed
- Maintains and updates instrument and preference cards of surgeon
- Responds in a timely manner to meet the needs of the patient and surgeon
- Documents patient-care records and other forms according to facility policy and procedures
- Handles equipment and instruments correctly to provide availability and safety
- Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and takes action according to policy
Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED certification
- Completion of Surgical Scrub Technician course
- Operating room experience
- BLS certification
Preferred:
- Two-year previous operating room experience
- ASC experience

Operating Room Registered Nurse

Operating Room Registered Nurse
The O.R. Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in compliance with, but not limited to Standards of Practice as defined by ANA, AORN, ASPAN, and the State Practice Act Standards along with organization protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Develops, implements, evaluates, and revises plan of care based on physical, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient/caregiver. Maintains clinical knowledge and skills competencies to facilitate patient care in accordance with current standards of practice and monitors the environment to provide safe patient care. Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room
Responsibilities:

- Reports observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure noncompliance to the Director of Nursing
- Participates in continuing education and other learning experiences
- Attends all mandatory in-services and required staff meetings
- Assists with orientation and training of new personnel and acts as a resource person for problems related to patient care
- Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and in effect turnover time
- Provides comfort and reassurance to patients
- Performs the circulating nurse’s role and functions following approved operating room procedures to meet requirements of scheduled procedures
- Prepares and cleanse operating room before, between, and after cases according to requirements of patient/procedure being performed
- Anticipates needs of surgical team and assists anesthesia personnel by supporting patient during administration of anesthesia
- Accurately records, labels, and handles specimens
- Assists with the proper and safe positioning of patient and prepares operative as directed by established policies and procedures
- Documents patient care records and other forms accurately as per policy and procedures
- Collaborate with surgical team to ensure efficient turnaround time between procedures
Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED certification
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing
- R.N. with active license in New Jersey
- BLS certification
- ACLS & PALS within six months of hire
Preferred:
- Two-year previous operating room experience
- ASC experience
